The Green Barberry will form a dense deciduous hedge and if left untrimmed it will reach a height of 8ft (2m). It displays bright red autumn leaves and berries, which are edible but tart and tend to be avoided by birds. The leaves are edible and can be added to salads. Whilst it forms an excellent security hedge, care should be taken where young children are around as it produces strong thorns which can cause injury.
